SLJ Day 2 Up In The Air Week 3

Activity 1 Bee Informed
The word ‘bumblebee’ is a compound word (bumble + bee). The word ‘bumble’ means to hum, buzz, or drone.

Bumblebees can fly very quickly. They can reach ground speeds of 54 kilometres per hour (km/h).

Bumblebees are very strong! They carry up to 90 percent of their body weight in food with them to avoid starvation.

Bumblebees can do more work and carry more pollen than other bees, including honeybees. In fact, they can do up to   50 times as much work as a normal honeybee.

The number of bumblebees is declining in New Zealand due to a number of factors, including the extensive use of pesticides.

Activity 2 Carbon Sinks Don’t Stink
I would put this food down the sink, custard, tomato, cucumber,
grapefruit, cake, mango, avocados and yams.

Activity 3 Flying Fungi
To figure this maths problem out you have to count up in fives seven
times, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, then you have add them up into weeks
and day. So the final answer is 5 weeks and 1 day.

SLJ Day 1 A Heated Debate Week 3

Activity 1 Togs Or Trackies
I think that Spring is a great time to travel to NZ.

Spring is a good time because it is the time when all the flowers
come out, some of those flowers are Magnolia and Rhododendrons.
Spring in NZ is also a great time to try out White Water Rafting,
because of the snow coming off the mountains and melting.

Finally there are lots of different parks to go to in NZ in the Springtime,
like the Christchurch Botanical Gardens. This is why I think it is good
to travel to NZ in Spring.

Activity 2 You Are My Sunshine
  1. Put on lots of sunscreen and keep reapplying
  2. Always where a hat when you are in the sun
  3. If there is shade sit in the shade over sitting in the sun
  4. Where sunglasses to protect your eyes
  5. Wear covered clothing, not just shorts and t-shirts

SLJ Day 5 Wasting Away Week 2

Activity 1 Off The Menu
I think it is a fair amount of money to pay.
I think this because some people need to learn that if
we over fish then there will be none left to fish. So if there
is a high price for over fishing then people will not do it again.
That why I think that $100,000 is a good amount of money to pay.

Activity 2 The Black Drain
The Grey River is a polluted river, because it is connected
when there is floods it gets really muddy and the sewage
floods from the pipes and into the river. I  think that some
things are being done to help the water pollution like, stop
more sewage from being dumped.

The second river that is polluted is the Waikato river.
Some of the sewage pollution come from Hamilton city, because
raw sewage is being dumped in the river.  The water quality
in the Waikato river is much better than it used to be in the past.
People have been working to improve the water quality,
by monitoring the water. There have also been clean ups
to help to the river.

Activity 3 Faded Glory
A fun run on the beach in NZ or Australia, by people paying a small
cost to participate, an have t-shirts and things like that that people can
buy that could say something like "Save The Great Barrier Reef"

A bake sale, where people bake things in and bring them to one place
and sell them and give the money they make to the council. You could
do this in Australia or NZ.

Or a swimming race in the ocean in either Australia or NZ. People pay
a small cost to participate. You could also have food down there like
sausages and ice cream.

SLJ Day 4 Spectacular Spectacular Week 2

Activity 1 Planes Trains And Automobiles
I would want to go on the boat. I would want the boat because
I like boats and I like the view you can get from them. I would
prefer the boat over the helicopter because if you are in the
helicopter you can only see from above, but if you are in a
boat then you can see the side of the mountains.
So I think that I would prefer the boat.

Activity 2 It’s All In The Name
  1. Devils Goo
  2. Greens Pool *
  3. Alien Pond

Activity 3
I am picking selfie #1.

The roaring crowds cheers and shouts echo in my ears.
The seats are full and the the game is ready to start.
My friends are on the end of their seat waiting for the game to start.
The whistle blows and I take out my phone.
Nudging my friends arm asking for a photo.
He says yes and gets our other friends to join in.
Waiting for a good time to take a selfie we wait for one of the
teams to score a goal. “GOAL!” everyone shouts, as the crowd
erupts in cheers. “NOW,” I shout and all my friends jump into
the frame. “SAY GOAL ON THREE,” I yell. Finally I have got the
perfect selfie.

SLJ Day 3 First You ‘Sea’ Me Now You Don’t Week 2

Activity 1 Night Owls
I am an early riser and not a night owl.
I go to bed around 9:30 pm and read until 10:00 pm then
I go to sleep depending on the night. But I tend to naturally
wake up at about 6:30 am to 7:00 am.

My brother is a night owl, he likes to stay up late and sometimes
he likes to sleep in and sometimes he likes getting up early.

My mum is pretty much a night owl, she stays up late doing
work, and she gets up around 7:00 am and 7:30 am.

My dad is like me he normally goes to bed not long after me, and he
gets up about 6:00 am in the morning to go to work. I think that I am
an early riser not a night owl

Activity 2 A Local Delicacy
My new favourite food is Salmon Salad.

Ingredients
2 carrots
1 capsicum
1 lettuce
A handful of Spinach
4 eggs
1 chunk of smoked Salmon

Cut the carrots and capsicum. Then was the lettuce and
spinach, then cut up the salmon. After that put all the ingredients
in a bowl and mix. You can put in dressing if you prefer.  Severes 4.

Activity 3 The Midnight Zone
500 divided by 25=20 (20 adults, no children)
75 divided by 15=5 (5 children)  (75 can be divided by 25)
500-75=425 divided by 25=17 adults
Final answer: 17 adults and 5 children

SLJ Day 2 Fabulaous Flora Week 2

Activity 1 Weaving A Tall Tale…
I would like to try flax weaving because it looks like a lot of fun.
Flax weaving would interest me because of what you can weave
with just flax like, a fish, a headband, a basket and many more
things. Over all flax weaving seems like a fun thing to do.

Activity 2 Mighty Mangroves
I think that Matilda is tough and strong.
Matilda is a character from one of the Roald Dahl books.
Her parents already had a child and they did not want another
one so they treated her unfairly from the moment she was born,
because her brother got what he wanted and she didn’t.
She has to teach herself how to cook and read because her
parents didn’t send her to school until she was around six or seven.

I think that Matilda is tough and strong because she has
to put up with her parents not loving her until she is seven, and
she had to teach herself how to do everything.

Activity 1 Surfs Up
Swimming at the beach is one of my favourite summer things to do.
Here is a photo of me swimming at a beach on my holiday in Perth.

Activity 2 The Great Taupo Cycling Challenge
As my support crew I would pick one best friend Jennae because
she is funny and because she is really supportive.
I would also pick my other best friends Rebekah and Grace.
I would pick Grace because she is kind and loud in a good way, and
I would pick Rebekah because she is always in a good mood and
enjoyable to be around.
