SLJ Day 1 A Heated Debate Week 3

Activity 1 Togs Or Trackies
I think that Spring is a great time to travel to NZ.

Spring is a good time because it is the time when all the flowers
come out, some of those flowers are Magnolia and Rhododendrons.
Spring in NZ is also a great time to try out White Water Rafting,
because of the snow coming off the mountains and melting.

Finally there are lots of different parks to go to in NZ in the Springtime,
like the Christchurch Botanical Gardens. This is why I think it is good
to travel to NZ in Spring.

Activity 2 You Are My Sunshine
  1. Put on lots of sunscreen and keep reapplying
  2. Always where a hat when you are in the sun
  3. If there is shade sit in the shade over sitting in the sun
  4. Where sunglasses to protect your eyes
  5. Wear covered clothing, not just shorts and t-shirts

Activity 3 Burning Up….
Here is my graph.

  3. Hi Hannah!

Another round of activities complete, awesome work! :)

    Activity One:
Great job with this activity, you have given some awesome reasons to come to New Zealand in the Spring.
These are also some exciting activites you have mentioned - Have you been Whitewater rafting before?
I would love to try it, I think it would be lots of fun!

    Activity Two:
You have come up with some great ways to stay safe in the sun this summer! So important to know, getting sunburnt is horrible!
Have you been sunburt before Hannah? ...very painful!

When I was little it was a pig that used to talk about being sun smart and he usd to talk about "slip, slop, slap and wrap" - Do they still say that in school?
Here he is if you want to check him out (Very cute):

    Activity Three:
Wow, what an awesome graph -
I can't believe how hot these places are!! I really like the hot weather but I dunno if I could handle that heat!
I did go to Death Valley in America and that is meant to be one of the hottest places on Earth - It is suppose to be hot enough to fry an egg on the ground... I'm not sure if it's true though, I didn't try it :)
Do you prefer the hot or cold?
Would you like to visit somewhere this hot?

Great work again Hannah, looking forward to reading your next post!

    Nga mihi,
    Ellee :)

    1. Konichiwa Ellee,
I have never been Whitewater rafting but it seems fun and scary at the same time. I have been sunburnt and it sucks. Once I got really bad sunburn pretty much all over my body because, I was in my togs and I put on sunscreen but it washed off in the lake. Whats the worst sunburn that you have got?

I don't think that the teachers show us that video of the pig, but they do teach us slip, slop, slap and wrap.

I don't like the hot weather that much. When I went on holiday in Perth Australia we were lucky to get temperatures in the 20s, but there was one day that was 37 degrees, that was to hot for me.

If you went back to Death Valley would you try and cook and egg on the ground? I prefer both hot and cold. I would not like to visit any of the places on my graph because they seem so hot!

    2. Hi Hannah!

Oh man I have burnt at the beach too many times - I really try hard to remember to reapply after being in the water but sometimes I forget and get myself in a bit of trouble!

I did not try cooking an egg, I didn't have one at the time, instead I just walked out into the Valley and did a couple handstands and cartwheels ... I had a bet going with a friend :)

  4. Hey Hannah, it Jennae!

I think all the seasons are a good time for tourists to visit but I chose the winter. There is a range of things they can do in the winter like snowboarding, skiing, ice skating, whale watching etc. The summer would be a good season for the tourists as well to visit.

These are great things to do to be sun smart. Each one of these things are very important to remember especially when you are going to be in the sun for a long period of time.

Wow, these places can get hot! We aren't used to it here because the weather isn't set for a season its all over the place with clouds, the hot sun and the rain.

Keep up the fantastic effort and work!
    Ka Pai!

    1. Hi Jennae,
Thank you for the comment. With the seasons I would have liked to write about all of them. I think that all the seasons are good to visit NZ because there is always something to do.

  5. Hi Hannah,
Great job on completing this activity! Did you hear about Japan last year? The highest temperature that they recorded was 41 degrees Celsius, the exact same as Dallol. Did you know it was so hot that people died from the heat and they had to pour water on the road so the tires of cars wouldn't melt?
