SLJ Day 5 The Sky's The Limit Week 4

Activity 1 Environment Day - Beat Plastic Pollution
  1. We use material bags instead of plastic
  2. Not buy plastic bottles, use a metal bottle instead
  3. Pick up rubbish outside and put it in a rubbish bin

Activity 2 Adoption Day
I choose the Kangaroos, Quokka and Wombat
Simalarates:
  • They are all native animals to Australia
  • All three of these animals are herbivores
  • Kangaroos, Quokkas and Wombats eat grass

Differences:
  • Wombats are threatened by hunting
  • Kangaroos communicate by making clucking sounds
  • Quokkas and Wombats come out at night to hunt

Activity 3 Concluding The Journey
What is one thing that you learned from participating in the
Summer Learning Journey programme this year?I learnt that
burning fossil fuels is a participant to global warming.

What is one thing that surprised you? One thing that surprised me
was how quick I completed the Summer Learning Journey.

What is one thing that concerned or upset you? Something that
concerned me was how endangered some of the animals in the
world are.

What is one thing that you (or your family) can do, moving
forward, to help protect our natural environment? Continue to
use material bags and pick up any rubbish that is not in the rubbish
bin.

SLJ Day 5 Here To Stay Week 3

Activity 1 Persistent Pollution
1. I did not know that when we burn fossil fuel they let off greenhouse
gases such as, Carbon Dioxide, Nitrous Oxide, Methane and
Fluorinated Gasses that trap heat in the earth's atmosphere
creating an increase in  global warming.

2. I did not know that climate change had an increase in mold and
that there is more pollen.

3. I did not know that smog can cause serious health problems.

Activity 2 Changing Climates
  1. I like to watch TV and movies with my family.
  2. I like to spend time with my pets.
  3. Another thing I like to do is draw and paint.
  4. I also like watching the rain from my window
  5. I also like reading and playing games with my family

Activity 3 Let It Rain
The pitter patter of the Nitric and Sulfuric acid rain on the roof had
stopped. Slowly opening the door I look around, the flowers are
wilted and dead. The trees stripped of leaves, leaving only the
damp bark. The leaves that were once thriving now, shrivelled
on the ground in a pile.

I look up and the clouds are a murky grey, with the wind
pushing them along black sky. I walk down my driveway to the
road, the wet gravel crunching under my every step.
Reaching the road the flowing dark smelly mist floats by me.
The grass on the side of the road is lying flat, after being
battered by the pounding acid rain. The creek on the side of
the road catches my eyes as dark brown water flows between
the rocks.

The once vibrant trees now with barely any leaves and the colour
has been drained away after the storm. I walk back inside feeling
sad at the sights I have seen.

SLJ Day 5 Wasting Away Week 2

Activity 1 Off The Menu
I think it is a fair amount of money to pay.
I think this because some people need to learn that if
we over fish then there will be none left to fish. So if there
is a high price for over fishing then people will not do it again.
That why I think that $100,000 is a good amount of money to pay.

Activity 2 The Black Drain
The Grey River is a polluted river, because it is connected
when there is floods it gets really muddy and the sewage
floods from the pipes and into the river. I  think that some
things are being done to help the water pollution like, stop
more sewage from being dumped.

The second river that is polluted is the Waikato river.
Some of the sewage pollution come from Hamilton city, because
raw sewage is being dumped in the river.  The water quality
in the Waikato river is much better than it used to be in the past.
People have been working to improve the water quality,
by monitoring the water. There have also been clean ups
to help to the river.

Activity 3 Faded Glory
A fun run on the beach in NZ or Australia, by people paying a small
cost to participate, an have t-shirts and things like that that people can
buy that could say something like "Save The Great Barrier Reef"

A bake sale, where people bake things in and bring them to one place
and sell them and give the money they make to the council. You could
do this in Australia or NZ.

Or a swimming race in the ocean in either Australia or NZ. People pay
a small cost to participate. You could also have food down there like
sausages and ice cream.

Summer Learning Journey Day 5 Blink And You'll Miss It Week 1

Activity 1 Towering Timbers
I am against logging. I think that it is killing lots of the native trees and birds.
I think that some logging is okay but a lot is a bad thing.
Loggers are cutting down to many trees. Take this picture for example,
it used to be filled with healthy growing trees and now they have been cut
down. Almost half of this forest has been cut down.
Over all I don’t think logging should be allowed in NZ. Image result for logged forests before and after

Activity 2 Living On The Edge
Dear Jennae,
It’s me Hannah. I went to Tundra and it was an unusual
experience let me tell you about it.

It was about about -18 degrees Fahrenheit, it was so cold.
When we went there it was so bare, there was barely any plants
and not much animals. Some of the animals that we saw were the
Snowy Owl, Arctic Fox, and Muskox.
One of the plants we saw was Lichen There was pretty much no
rain but lots of snow. Jennae did you know that the ground is
completely frozen permanently!
From Hannah

Activity 3 Going, Going…… Gone
New Zealand was a great place to live. I live in Greymouth on the West Coast.
The grey River is something that I see all the time, it runs between Cobden
and Greymouth. There is also a bridge so you can get over to Cobden.
I have been to some places in NZ. I have been to Christchurch
which is around 3 and a half hours away.
On the way there is a place called Arthurs Pass.
I remember going there for a school camp, and it was really
hot but it can also snow. Christchurch is one of the many cities in NZ.
It is a busy city and I remember there always being traffic.
