SLJ Day 5 The Sky's The Limit Week 4

Activity 1 Environment Day - Beat Plastic Pollution
  1. We use material bags instead of plastic
  2. Not buy plastic bottles, use a metal bottle instead
  3. Pick up rubbish outside and put it in a rubbish bin

Activity 2 Adoption Day
I choose the Kangaroos, Quokka and Wombat
Simalarates:
  • They are all native animals to Australia
  • All three of these animals are herbivores
  • Kangaroos, Quokkas and Wombats eat grass

Differences:
  • Wombats are threatened by hunting
  • Kangaroos communicate by making clucking sounds
  • Quokkas and Wombats come out at night to hunt

Activity 3 Concluding The Journey
What is one thing that you learned from participating in the
Summer Learning Journey programme this year?I learnt that
burning fossil fuels is a participant to global warming.

What is one thing that surprised you? One thing that surprised me
was how quick I completed the Summer Learning Journey.

What is one thing that concerned or upset you? Something that
concerned me was how endangered some of the animals in the
world are.

What is one thing that you (or your family) can do, moving
forward, to help protect our natural environment? Continue to
use material bags and pick up any rubbish that is not in the rubbish
bin.

  1. Hey Hannah!

These are great things we do to help our enviroment. It has slightly changed the population of rubbish. Do you think that there is anything we really need to fix to help the planet?

I love these 3 animals you chosen to write similarities and differences about. Have you ever seen all these animals before? Do You like Australia? These are great differences and similarities for these three animals but you could probably include something about their habitats

Good job on your 3 posts! Its goob to see that you learned something new for partiipating in the Summer Learning Journey. I was also suprised how fast I completed the Summer Learning Journey as well. Did you think it was hard(challenging)?

Keep up the great work Hannah!

    1. Hi Jennae,
Thank you for the comment. I do like Australia, and I have seen all of these animals, in the wild and in a zoo. Have you seen any of the animals that I picked?

  2. Kia Ora Hannah!

Well done for completing the Summer Learning Journey. You have put in a magnificent amount of effort in your posts. I have enjoyed reading your posts so far. You have done a fantastic job.

It looks like you have learnt a lot about the environment, You have shared a lot of interesting information. Last Christmas I got a gorgeous red metal bottle! It keeps hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold! Do you also have a metal bottle? If so what colour is it?

I’m also surprised how quickly you finished the Summer Learning Journey! What was your favourite activity?

Allie will see you soon when schools start in February! She will have certificates and prizes. So stay tuned! Thanks for blogging with us and we hope it was a great experience.

Keep up the creativity and hard work
He Whetu Koe! (You’re a star!)

    1. Hi Hasiba,
I have enjoyed completing the Summer Learning Journey this year. I also have one of those metal drink bottles and mine has a marble pattern on it but, I have had it for a year or so so now and the print has lots of cracks in it.

  3. Hi Hannah

Congratulations on finishing the Summer Learning Journey for the 2018-19 summer. You have done a fantastic job with all the activities that you have completed.
It is great that you have learnt a lot along the way about the environment and what we need to do to look after is a little better than perhaps we are now.

I hope that you enjoyed your experience of the programme. Did you have a favourite activity? We have all enjoyed reading your posts over the summer.

I will be returning to schools in February with prizes and certificates and look forward to seeing you then.

Enjoy the last few days of the holidays before you head back to school.

    Well done Hannah!

    See you soon

    Allie :)

    1. Hi Allie,
I have enjoyed the Summer Learning Journey, but I can't pick a favourite activity, because I enjoyed all of them. Although I did like the activities that were on the animals.

  4. Kia Ora Hannah,

My name is Rachel and I work with Allie, Hasiba and Evelyn on the Summer Learning Journey programme. I would love to join them in congratulating you on completing the SLJ this year. Wow! That is a huge accomplishment!

I know that Allie is really looking forward to returning to Karoro in February to celebrate with all of the SLJ participants and prize winners. I'll look forward to talking to her all about her experience and to, hopefully, seeing some great pictures from the prizegiving. I live up in Auckland so I won't be able to attend in person but I will be waiting to hear all about it!

Wishing you and your family a lovely final few days of holiday before school starts again.

All the best for a fabulous year ahead!

    Best,
    Rachel :)

  5. Hi there Hannah,

A big, big congratulations to you on making it to the end and completing all the activities, I hope you have had an amazing time and learnt many new things on this wonderful journey! I would like to thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge with us all!

You have concluded the Summer Learning Journey with a wonderful reflection and I am pleased to know that you have obtained lots of new knowledge. We all have a role on this planet and we can definitely play our part to make this place a little bit better each day. Using reusable bags and picking up rubbish when you see it is an excellent start and a very good suggestion, well done!

May you enjoy the rest of your holidays and have a lovely year of school ahead!

I wish you all the very best,
    Evelyn :)
