Kea Poem

Kea

Glorious and glistening, te Ra rises
over magical mountains
Majestic manu awakes
 Kea, expanding  wings,
a burst of sunset colours fill the morning air

Diving down, gliding  peacefully through the crispy cold air
                                        Warm colours like  burning lava,
cool colours like the deep, dark moana
Squawking echoing above the maunga

Landing in an alpine larch in search of kai
Dark beady eyes lined in yellow look down
Eyes as black as thunderclouds

Sharp, curved beak opens
Dispensing  a piercing sound
Knife like talons open
Swoop down and grab food

Looking curiously at the sinking sun
and speeding cars
Then spreads out its wings and flies silently home.
