SLJ Day 4 Making Promises Week 4

Activity 1 Campaigning For Conversation
I choose to do my campaign about the Sea Lions. My slogan is
Sea you later, maybe

Activity 2 The Plastic Pledge
I asked my Mum about Countdown going plastic bag free, this is
what she said, “it is a good idea because plastic bags are doing a
lot to the environment”

Activity 3 Restricted Access
I think that restricting the amount of people that visit Machu Picchu
is a bad idea. I think this because lots of people want to go up to
the mountain, some people might  travelled a long way to see the
mountain and they can’t go and see it. Maybe instead of putting
restrictions on Machu Picchu, the government could put up barriers
so that the environment can grow again, and when it has completely
healed then they can take the barriers off.

  1. Hey Hannah!

I have never heard about the Sea Lions campaign what is it about and for? I see what you did there.

I agree plastic bags are changing our environment and countdown helping is such a great idea!

You have a point! It is a bad idea discluding them to seeing Machu Picchu but the government is trying t help the environment remember. I respect what you think but I think it is fair for the government restricting the mount of visitors being allowed to see Machu Picchu.

    1. Hi Jennae,
For the seal campaign I clicked on the link on the activity and it took me to a website and you had to choose one campaign group to, create a slogan for.
I am glad that you get my slogan.

  2. Kia ora Hannah,

I love the pun you have used in your slogan, that's very creative! It's sad to know that these New Zealand sea lions were once found all over our coast but are now only one step away from extinction. Like you, I most definitely hope to continue to "sea" them later.

Your mum has made a very good point, it is clear that plastic bags have had a negative impact on our environment. Thankfully many of our big supermarkets like PAK'nSAVE and New World have started to ban the use of single-use plastic bags. Do you and your family bring reusable bags to the supermarket and shopping malls?

I also think that it's quite an unfair rule because many, many people will miss out on the chance to visit Machu Picchu each year. My parents love hiking and they actually were able to hike the Inca Trail to see Machu Picchu last year in July! They've hiked many mountains in New Zealand and around the world yet they both feel that Machu Picchu was most probably their favourite one! I like your idea! They should definitely come up with a way to allow tourists to visit Machu Picchu without actually damaging the land. Do you think you would like to visit someday?

    Best,
    Evelyn :)

    1. Hi Evelyn,
Thank you so much for your comment. I hope that we "sea" the sea lions later on in the future. My family always brings material bags if we go somewhere like the supermarket.

Your parents seem very active. Did they enjoy their hike to Machu Picchu. I would some day like to go to Macchu Picchu, how about you?

    2. Hey Hannah,

Thank you for your reply. It's fantastic to hear that you and your family are doing your part to help save our planet! :)

Yup, my parents are pretty active and quite fit, especially for their age! They absolutely loved Machu Picchu and I think you would really enjoy it as well! The culture there is very unique and interesting as well. I also would like to visit someday. What's your dream country to visit?

      Best,
      Evelyn :)

    4. Kia ora Hannah,

I think you'll have lots of fun in America, they have Disneyland and lots of theme parks and shopping malls that you could visit! My dream country to visit at the moment would be Japan.

      Best,
      Evelyn :)
