SLJ Day 3 Taking Flight Week 3

Activity 1 Bird Of The Year
The Kingfisher lives in lots of different types of habitats like, forests, r
iver margins, farmlands, lakes and rocky coastlines. Kingfishers like
to eat small crabs, tadpoles, freshwater crayfish, and small fish.
They eat this food when they are along the water, but when they are
inland they eat, insects, spiders, small birds, lizards and mice.
Kingfishers are doing okay but they still
need help to survive.

Activity 2 Flying Foxes
If I could choose a superpower I would choose teleportation.
I would choose teleportation because it would make it so easy
getting to places. So if you lived in a big city like Perth then you
would just be able to teleport and not get stuck in traffic.
I would use teleportation to get to school and other places, and if
I was going to Christchurch it would take a matter of seconds instead
of hours.

  1. Greetings, Hannah,

One of the commenters for the Summer Learning Journey, here.

Nice job on completing a whole days' work and putting it all into one post!

Activity One - I think it's good to keep an eye on birds like the Kingfisher who as you say is okay but still needs help to survive. If we take a stand to help protect animals that need help, we can stop the risk of them going extinct! You've also gathered lots of great information about the kingfisher, too - quite the diet! "Small birds" surprises me, though :o

Activity Two - I can see that you've put quite a lot of thought into your chosen superpower. Nice! I've got to agree with your points - it would make travelling much easier!

Activity three - these are interesting facts about the flying fish! It really would give the impression that they're flying - six metres out of the ocean for 40-50 seconds?! That would be quite the sight!

    Keep up the great work!

    1. Thank you Willy for the comment,
I had fun finding out about the flying fish and writing what superpower I want. What superpower would you choose?

  2. Hi Hannah, its Jennae here.

I love your work about the kingfisher. This bird has such cool and unique things about themselves. A kingfisher is a great bird to have as the next bird of the year! Have you ever seen a king fisher before?

Teleportation would be such an awesome superpower to have. Traveling at fast speeds is something that would help us all alot by being places in time and if you and other people can't be bothered getting to some place you can simply use teleportation. Would you like to be a superwoman and use teleportation as a power, why or why not? How would you use it as a superhero?
With your work there is a mistake when you said,
'So if you lived in a big city like Perth them you
would just be able to teleport and not get stuck in traffic' the 'm' I think should be changed to n.

Flying fish are such cool fish. I have seen them before, have you? These are some interesting and new facts about flying fish. With your first paragraph in the top left hand corner it doesn't make sense when you say'flying fishes fins are look like wings,' it doesn't make sense.

    Ka Pai Hannah

    Keep up the amazing work!

  4. Kia Ora Hannah!

Great choice! The Kingfisher sounds like an awesome bird! I didn’t know they ate from the sea and land! The photo you have used is great! The background makes the bird stand out! Adding photos makes your blog look awesome! And it’s great you are using free to use images. :)

This is such a well thought out blog post! You have touched on such great ideas! Teleportation is an awesome power to have! Travelling is super expensive! Airports make me a bit nervous in general. Have you been to Perth before? What’s your favourite thing about?

This is an attractive DLO! I admire the time and effort you put into your posts! Excellent choice! I’d love to one day see a flying fish in real life!
You’re DLO is super informative and easy to read! You are doing an amazing job completing the summer learning journey!

    Keep up the great work!

  5. Hi Hannah,
Great job on completing this activity! I liked how even though you said that Kingfishers aren't endangered they still need help to survive and thrive. This is true for a lot of animals, which is why we keep some in zoos and in captivity so they are free from predators and can raise their young safely.
